Fabrizio Romano has responded to fresh speculation linking Alexis Mac Allister with a surprise transfer to Manchester United.<\/p>\n
Reports from The Mirror suggested that figures at Old Trafford are considering a move for the Liverpool midfielder, with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said to be keen should the opportunity arise.<\/p>\n
Mac Allister, 27, still has just under two-and-a-half years remaining on his Liverpool contract, earning \u00a3150,000 per week \u2014 a figure surpassed by only seven teammates at Anfield.<\/p>\n
Romano plays down the speculation<\/p>\n
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano made it clear he is \u201cnot aware of anything really concrete or strong\u201d regarding the rumoured move. While he expects United to be very active in strengthening their midfield this summer, he indicated that this particular story lacks substance.<\/p>\n
Romano did mention that players such as Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali are admired at Old Trafford. However, he stressed that the club\u2019s transfer direction will depend heavily on appointing a permanent manager and determining whether they secure Champions League qualification.<\/p>\n
Liverpool unlikely to sell to a rival<\/p>\n
Despite the widespread nature of the report, it is extremely difficult to imagine Liverpool sanctioning a sale to one of their fiercest rivals \u2014 particularly when it involves a key starter who played a pivotal role in last season\u2019s Premier League title win.<\/p>\n
Only two weeks ago, Mac Allister\u2019s father, Carlos, dismissed talk of a move to Real Madrid, insisting the Argentine is \u201cvery happy and very comfortable\u201d on Merseyside.<\/p>\n
While the midfielder has not consistently matched the levels he hit during the 2024\/25 campaign \u2014 leading to some suggestions he could be rotated \u2014 he delivered a strong display in the 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.<\/p>\n
He has featured in every Premier League match for which he\u2019s been available this season, starting all but four \u2014 underlining how highly he is valued by Arne Slot. The idea of selling him, particularly to Manchester United, would be unthinkable for many Liverpool supporters.<\/p>\n
