Sky Sports pundit claims a 22-year-old Chelsea player lacks confidence following the defeat against Wolves

Alan Smith thinks Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is lacking confidence after watching him play against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today.

Nicolas Jackson had a good chance to score in the first half after Raheem Sterling found him with a nice ball.

However, instead of taking his opportunity first time, the 22-year-old tried to take a touch, which he failed to do adequately. For Alan Smith, who was commentating on the match for Sky Sports (24/12/2023 at 13:23), it showed a lack of confidence.

Jackson was replaced in the second half and Chelsea supporters reacted well to the change.

Despite quite a mixed season at Stamford Bridge so far, Jackson is still the club’s top scorer with eight goals in all competitions.

Nicolas Jackson lacking confidence
According to Smith, Jackson is missing a bit of belief right now.

The former Arsenal and Leicester City striker said during the encounter at Molineux: “Sterling does ever so well on this side, spots his man. You’re never going to have enough time to take a touch there.

“And although we spoke about the fact that he’s got eight goals, he’s clearly lacking confidence not to take it first time.”

Nicolas Jackson can bounce back
If Jackson is lacking a bit of confidence right now and is not happy with his display against Gary O’Neil’s side, it is not the end of the world. He can come good again.

The Senegal international did not make the quickest start to life in the Premier League, scoring just one goal in his first six games, which came against Luton Town.

However, things improved and he soon found himself bagging a hat-trick versus Tottenham Hotspur and netting in an incredible 4-4 draw with Manchester City.

Ultimately, being such a young striker, there are going to be ups and downs, something Chelsea supporters and everyone else probably need to remember.
