One Arsenal supporter was recently reduced to tears by Ben White’s actions whilst on pre-season tour in America.
Ben White is a popular figure at Arsenal.
Not only is he fully trusted by Mikel Arteta, but he is a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium too.
White has endeared himself to Arsenal fans with his reputation as a wind-up merchant. His mastery of the dark arts serves a practical function too, especially in set-piece situations, when the 26-year-old right-back is regularly tasked with hassling and harrying the opposition goalkeeper.
Less practically, White recently amused Arsenal fans with a prank on Martin Odegaard, which was spotted during a training excise on the pitch as the Gunners prepared for a pre-season friendly game.
Arsenal are currently in the US on a pre-season tour. They have already taken on Bournemouth and Manchester United, and are soon set to bring the curtain down on their time in America with a clash against Liverpool in Philadelphia.
Ben White delights Arsenal fan
The purpose of these tours is to both give the players the game time needed to build up their fitness ahead of the campaign, and also allow the club to interact with their supporters around the world.
Arsenal may well be based in North London and an intrinsic part of the local community there, but they are also a club with global appeal and supporters all around the world. Many of those supporters are just as passionate and committed as those who live in the shadow of the Emirates Stadium.
One fan was recently delighted by his interaction with White. In footage posted to X by AFCnewsroom, one supporter is seen in tears as the defender signs his shirt.
The joyful supporter can be heard saying “I love you, Ben.”
Ben White faces competition from Jurrien Timber
Whilst White was in sensational form for Arsenal last season, and the starting berth at right-back is very much his to lose, he will have to fight to keep it this season.
Following Jurrien Timber’s long-term injury at the start of last season, White faced little-to-no competition for his place in the team throughout the campaign. However, with the Dutchman now back to full fitness, able to play at right-back, and eager to make up for lost time, White will have to keep his standards high.
