Arsenal put Bayer Leverkusen to the sword in a pre-season friendly at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Arsenal recorded a 4-1 win over the reigning German champions in North London, as Mikel Arteta was also able to hand valuable game time to plenty of players.
The Spanish coach fielded a strong starting XI for this friendly fixture, and the Gunners hit the ground running, going 2-0 up with less than ten minutes on the clock.
Their opener came when Kai Havertz laid the ball off towards Leandro Trossard, who dummied it, before it came to Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukrainian left-back lashed his shot into the bottom corner from just outside the box.
Moments later, Arsenal won the ball back high up the pitch after some determined pressing. Some eye-catching interplay led to the ball coming to Havertz in the middle of the penalty area. The German then deftly shifted the ball on to Trossard.
The Belgian attacker produced some nifty footwork to wrong-foot a defender and the goalkeeper, before rolling home into an empty net.
The 29-year-old posed a threat throughout the rest of his time on the pitch, as he got 82 valuable minutes under his belt.
The former Brighton man will be desperate to feature regularly for the Gunners this season. Trossard and Arteta have had a fractious relationship in the past, as the forward has often been asked to play second fiddle at the Emirates Stadium.
If Trossard can consistently perform to the level he produced against Bayer Leverkusen, though, then the manager will have no choice put to play him.

After the final whistle against Bayer Leverkusen, many Arsenal fans on X heaped praise on Trossard.

Another supporter claimed: “Trossard has always been a top-class finisher. I hope this season he will be more consistent.”
One added: “Trossard has to be our best finisher, we need to utilize this ability fully.”

Where is Trossard best for Arsenal?
One of Trossard’s great attributes is his versatility. He can play on either flank, in an attacking midfield role, and lead the line if required. Most of his football for the Gunners has come on the left wing, but he has also impressed as a false nine.
Given his lack of pace, Arteta needs to use Trossard more regularly as a striker. As a false nine, the attacker won’t be required to stretch defences with runs in behind, but Arsenal can still benefit from his intelligent movement and clinical finishing ability.
