Jurgen Klopp is rumored to be in line for an unexpected managerial position following his departure from Liverpool, where he had planned to take a prolonged break.
The ex-Liverpool manager is being linked with a surprising return to football just months after leaving the club at the end of last season.
After nine years leading the Reds, Klopp stepped down in January, citing exhaustion as the reason for his decision. He concluded his tenure with a victory over Wolves in May and has since been enjoying his break with his wife Ulla and family.
He returned to the dugout for Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski’s testimonial, but Klopp is now being linked with a move to Serie A champions Inter Milan.
Inter’s current manager, Simone Inzaghi, is considered a top candidate to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United if the club decides to part ways with him following a poor start to the season.
According to InterLive, via TEAMtalk, Inter is aware of the interest in Inzaghi and already has contingency plans in place should he leave.
Klopp is Inter’s top choice to replace Inzaghi, and they view him as a more attainable option than former player Diego Simeone, who has been in charge of Atletico Madrid for over a decade.
Klopp’s name has been mentioned for several high-profile roles, including the USMNT, Barcelona, and Germany jobs.
However, after purchasing a new mansion in Germany’s version of ‘Beverly Hills,’ it seems unlikely that Klopp is preparing for a return anytime soon.
When he announced his departure from Liverpool, Klopp made it clear he planned to take at least a year off from managing.
He confessed: “If you ask me, ‘Will you ever work as a manager again?’ I would currently say no. But I obviously don’t know how I’ll feel in that situation since I’ve never experienced it. What I do know for sure is that I will never manage another English club besides Liverpool.”
“But as for everything else, will I work again? Of course, I know myself, I can’t just sit idle. I’ll probably find something else to do. However, managing a club or national team won’t happen for at least a year. It’s not something I can do or want to do right now. That’s all.”
