Jurgen Klopp, 57, has finally addressed the rumors linking him to the German national team job. While receiving the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in Berlin, Klopp commented on the speculation. He remarked, “Everyone hopes Julian Nagelsmann will stay on much longer than 2026,” as reported by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
Klopp, who left Liverpool in May after announcing a break from football earlier in the year, has been rumored as the top candidate to replace Nagelsmann if he leaves. However, Klopp downplayed the rumors, adding, “I’d prefer not to talk about football today, as there’s nothing to say.”
The speculation gained traction after Rudi Völler, the director of the German national team, mentioned Klopp as a top choice should Nagelsmann decide to return to club football. Völler praised Klopp but emphasized that the decision rests on Nagelsmann’s future plans.
Nagelsmann, who took over the German national team in September 2023 after being dismissed from Bayern Munich earlier in the year, led Germany to the final of the 2024 European Championship, where they lost to Spain.
