Arsenal discover Benjamin Sesko’s actual price tag despite signing Viktor Gyokeres, as Manchester United move closer to sealing the deal.

Arsenal’s long-term target Benjamin Sesko is edging closer to a Premier League move — but not to the Emirates. Instead, Manchester United are now favourites to land the RB Leipzig striker, beating out both Arsenal and Newcastle in the c NHhase.

Despite Newcastle’s improved second offer reportedly being accepted by the Bundesliga side, United’s bid of €75m (£65.3m) plus €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons still falls short of Leipzig’s valuation. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with hopes that the deal could be finalised before United’s opening fixture against Arsenal on August 17 — a match that could have featured Sesko in red for the Gunners if their year-long pursuit had ended differently.

Arsenal had to withdraw from negotiations after being unwilling to meet Leipzig’s price and the player’s personal terms. The German side were asking for around £69m, but Arsenal opted to switch focus and secured Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP for a £55m fee with up to £8.5m in add-ons.

Newcastle made a final push, offering £69.7m including bonuses, but the 22-year-old Slovenian international reportedly favours a move to Old Trafford. United are now pushing to wrap up the transfer, potentially adding Sesko to a summer haul that already includes Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

If completed, Sesko’s move would add extra drama to the season curtain-raiser between Arsenal and United — especially with both clubs likely featuring big-money strikers acquired this summer.
