Eberechi Eze transfer: Crystal Palace hint at future as Arsenal pursue £68m move.
Arsenal are targeting Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as their next major signing, but face a race against time to trigger the release clause in his contract.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has accepted that player departures are part of football life, as Arsenal step up their interest in Eberechi Eze. The England star has a £68m release clause that expires on August 15, giving the Gunners a short window to trigger it before Palace can demand a higher fee.
Speaking after Palace’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool, Parish said:
> “Players come and go in football clubs, you know, it’s a life cycle, isn’t it? Hopefully they’re still here. That’s what I’d like, but we’ll see.”
Ex-Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes Eze would be the ideal final addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad this summer. On talkSPORT, he said:
> “I think there might be one more signing. I’m not sure how much money’s left or what the rules allow, but if there is enough, Eze would be a brilliant signing. He could play off the left, but you need plenty of options and depth for the Champions League, FA Cup, and all the fixtures. That’s why Norgaard could also be a smart buy — he knows he’d be second choice but can still make a big impact. Eze would be the icing on the cake.”
Eze is not the only Palace star attracting big interest. Defender Marc Guehi is wanted by Liverpool, who are prioritising a new centre-back before the transfer deadline. Chelsea have reportedly turned their attention elsewhere, leaving the Reds in pole position.
Parish admitted the club must consider offers to avoid losing top players for nothing.
