£58m Chelsea player’s big chance after recent victory, if reports are accurate

It was mostly all good news at Stamford Bridge last night as Chelsea picked up arguably their biggest win of the season against Newcastle United.

A late Mykhailo Mudryk goal saw them force a penalty shootout, where they were perfect from the spot.

This allowed Djordje Petrovic to make himself the hero with a flying save to win the game on just his second start for the club.

While the good news consisted of them getting one step closer to a cup final, it was not all positive after last night.

Enzo Fernandez was forced off in the first half, with Sky Sports claiming that he had been substituted as a result of an illness.

However, he was clearly emotional at full-time, perhaps suggesting that there was a little more than met the eye.

It has since been reported in his home country that he has been playing through injury for quite a while now, and this could see him set for a period on the sidelines.

If this is true, there is one player close to being fit that could see this as his perfect opportunity to prove why he should be starting.

Romeo Lavia has been yet to feature for the club this season after picking up an injury just weeks after his £58m move from Southampton.

However, he has been spotted in training as he prepares to make his debut, with the timing perhaps now being ideal if Fernandez is out for a while.

He would likely form a partnership with Moises Caicedo in the middle of the park, with both players choosing Stamford Bridge over moves to Liverpool.

The congested fixture list will bring up plenty of chances for him to make his debut, as the Blues look to climb back up the league table.
