A Liverpool player has expressed a desire to renew their contract, but FSG may find it challenging to accommodate.

A Liverpool player has made his contract renewal intentions clear to the club’s hierarchy, but negotiations may not be an immediate priority.

With significant focus on the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold—who all have just over four months left on their deals—Luis Díaz has also expressed a desire to extend his stay at Anfield.

According to transfer expert Graeme Bailey (TBR Football), Díaz’s representatives have informed Liverpool that the 28-year-old wants a new contract to be finalized soon. However, with his current deal running until 2027, the club is in no rush to open talks, prioritizing more urgent extensions first.

Despite this, Liverpool’s hierarchy remains keen on securing Díaz’s long-term future, especially with the potential departure of multiple attackers in the summer. Manager Arne Slot has also emphasized his desire to keep the Colombian forward.

Díaz recently ended an 11-game goal drought by scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Wolves and is now looking to make an impact against Aston Villa. With Cody Gakpo sidelined, he has an opportunity to impress in his preferred left-wing position after struggling in a central role.

While Díaz may need to be patient, Liverpool has ample time to address his contract situation. Ideally, the club would have already resolved the pressing matters of Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold to focus on renewals for other key players like Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konaté, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Curtis Jones, and Conor Bradley.

For now, Liverpool must ensure they handle Díaz’s situation more proactively than they have with the trio nearing the end of their contracts, ensuring the Colombian remains part of their long-term plans.
