A new claim has surfaced regarding Manchester City’s 115 charges as the football community awaits a verdict. The club was charged with 115 breaches of financial regulations by the Premier League in February 2023, with a private hearing scheduled for December 2024.
City firmly denies the charges, asserting they have an “irrefutable body of evidence” to support their case. The outcome could significantly impact English football, especially if the club is found guilty. Potential penalties include hefty fines, points deductions, or, in the most severe cases, relegation from the Premier League.
While the Premier League cannot directly relegate teams, it could impose a points deduction substantial enough to lead to relegation.
Former City financial advisor Stefan Borson suggested that a verdict might be imminent. Speaking on talkSPORT, he remarked, “I think City must be quite close… There’s been a lot of misinformation about the situation. A 12-week trial typically takes time for a decision. In a High Court equivalent, it could easily take 12 to 18 months.
“This week seemed plausible for a decision. If it didn’t happen during the international window in April, I thought the parties would likely hold off until the end of the season to avoid distractions.
“We’re approaching a point where, if the decision isn’t announced soon—ideally during the close season—it could come out in the three weeks after the Club World Cup but before the season starts, which would be less than ideal. If it doesn’t come out in the next couple of weeks, we’re getting very close to the start of the season, and that would be a complete disaster.”
