Despite an improved performance in the second leg, Liverpool was eliminated after Nunez and Curtis Jones had their penalties saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma, allowing PSG’s Desire Doue to secure their quarter-final spot. Ousmane Dembélé’s earlier goal had drawn the tie level.

Van Dijk, however, is already shifting focus to Liverpool’s next challenge—the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United. He sees this as an opportunity for redemption and a chance to lift the first trophy under Arne Slot’s management.

“Football is like this,” Van Dijk said post-match. “I told the guys, ‘You can be disappointed because we’re out, but keep your chins up.’ Now, we move on to the next challenge this weekend, which is an exciting one.”

He praised Liverpool’s performance, acknowledging the difficulty of facing PSG but emphasizing that they played well. “We saw in Paris that we struggled but still won, and today, we saw a strong Liverpool side, but unfortunately, we’re out.”

PSG manager Luis Enrique also acknowledged Liverpool’s efforts, highlighting their intensity and the character they showed, even in the penalty shootout. He particularly credited Donnarumma’s heroics in securing PSG’s advancement.
