“Man United Fans Urge Ruben Amorim to Bring Sporting Star Along After Masterclass Against Man City”
Manchester United fans are hopeful Ruben Amorim will bring one of his Sporting CP stars to Old Trafford with him—though it’s not striker Victor Gyokeres.
The Swedish forward impressed with a hat-trick in Sporting’s 4-1 comeback win over Manchester City, Amorim’s final home game with the Lisbon club. Despite missing an earlier one-on-one chance, the former Coventry City striker leveled the score just before halftime, converted a penalty after Maximiliano Araujo put Sporting ahead, and sealed the victory with another spot-kick to make it 4-1.
Gyokeres now has 22 goals this season, fitting the profile of a clinical striker United needs. However, United fans were particularly captivated by another Sporting player: captain Morten Hjulmand. The Danish midfielder, who scored for Denmark against England at Euro 2024, led Sporting’s midfield with composure and skill.
Hjulmand has also been in contact with United’s own Rasmus Hojlund, who recently expressed excitement about playing under Amorim and praised Hjulmand’s positive feedback on the coach.
