Liverpool’s record arrival has offered a frank update on his fitness as he eyes a potential debut after the international break.

Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Alexander Isak revealed that a disrupted pre-season means his integration into life at Anfield will need to be managed carefully.

“Yeah, of course, that’s the ambition.

“But I’ve had a difficult summer where I didn’t play any games and only had limited training. It’s something we’ll have to assess — to see where I’m at and how much I can give.

“That said, I definitely want to play as soon as I can.”

The 25-year-old’s remarks show his eagerness, though the coaching staff must weigh up his sharpness before throwing him straight into action.

Isak arrived from Newcastle for a British-record fee after netting 27 goals last season, with expectations naturally sky-high. However, the drawn-out transfer saga left him sidelined from Eddie Howe’s squad, meaning he currently lacks match rhythm.

His signing forms part of a major attacking reshuffle that also brought in Hugo Ekitike, who is expected to serve as a backup option through the middle but should still see plenty of minutes.

With Burnley up first after the break and several important fixtures to follow, Arne Slot will be desperate to have his new talisman available as quickly as possible.

Liverpool’s new-look attack

Having already delivered the Premier League title last season, Slot now faces the challenge of blending fresh attacking talent without breaking momentum.

Florian Wirtz, signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m, has joined the midfield ranks, adding to the sense of transformation at Anfield. Gary Neville has suggested the German youngster still needs more tactical guidance — something that will also apply to Isak as he adapts.

Attention now turns to when the Swede will finally step out in red competitively. His transfer fee and salary underline the weight of expectation, but it’s goals that will ultimately define his success.
