Anthony Gordon offers fresh clue about his future amid Liverpool turning down new offer for Luis Diaz

Newcastle United fans likely felt reassured this week as Alexander Isak featured prominently in the launch of the club’s new third kit, despite ongoing speculation linking the Swedish striker with a move to Liverpool. The Magpies remain firm in their desire to keep their star forward at St. James’ Park.
The new kit, unveiled on Tuesday (July 1), included a promotional video and photoshoot featuring Isak and club legend Faustino Asprilla. While uncertainty still lingers around Isak’s future, his involvement helped avoid the extra attention that would have followed had Newcastle’s top talent been absent.
Isak isn’t the only Magpies player on Liverpool’s radar. Last summer, the Reds came close to signing Anthony Gordon in a £75 million deal before Newcastle pulled out after securing alternative funds to meet financial regulations. Although Gordon signed a long-term deal in October, rumors about a move to his boyhood club haven’t gone away.
Gordon, who was seen vacationing with Liverpool’s Curtis Jones this summer, also took part in the kit launch with Isak and others. Sharing photos of the launch on Instagram, the 24-year-old appeared to hint at staying put, captioning his post: “3rd kit. 3rd season.” In a video, he praised the kit’s design, calling it “phenomenal,” “retro,” and “very much my style.”
Since joining Newcastle from Everton for £45 million in January 2023, Gordon has made 106 appearances and scored 22 goals, including 12 in the 2023/24 season — performances that have kept Liverpool’s interest alive.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are facing uncertainty over Luis Diaz’s future. Despite rejecting offers from Barcelona and Bayern Munich this summer and insisting they want to keep him, Diaz is hoping for an improved contract as he enters the final two years of his current deal.
Speaking last month while on international duty, Diaz confirmed his representatives have been in contact with other clubs amid stalled talks with Liverpool. He emphasized his happiness at Anfield but made it clear that his future hinges on the club’s next move.
As long as Diaz’s future remains unresolved, transfer rumors will persist — including links to Gordon, despite the Newcastle winger’s apparent commitment to the club.
