Arne Slot addresses fresh Liverpool controversy as he awaits FA ruling on potential ban.

Arne Slot has weighed in on two key refereeing decisions during Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Wolves, while also addressing his recent FA charge following his dismissal against Everton.

Slot supported the officials’ calls to disallow Mohamed Salah’s goal for offside and overturn a penalty awarded to Liverpool after a VAR review. Despite Wolves’ late push following Matheus Cunha’s goal, Liverpool secured the win with goals from Luis Diaz and Salah.

VAR ruled Salah offside when he scored after receiving a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Shortly after, Liverpool was initially awarded a penalty when Diogo Jota went down under a challenge from Emmanuel Agbadou. However, replays showed Jota initiated the contact, leading the referee to reverse the decision after a VAR review.

“The referee overturned the original decision and play restarted with a drop ball,” the Premier League stated.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot agreed with both decisions: “We had a goal ruled offside and a penalty overturned. We were a bigger goal threat in the second half, but Wolves took risks. Today, defending became more important than attacking, and if that’s what it takes to win, I’m happy the players could do that.”

Slot also acknowledged that the overturned decisions might have contributed to the team’s fatigue, noting, “We thought we’d scored a third and had a penalty, but both were rightly overturned. Maybe that led to some tiredness—we haven’t seen our players this fatigued all season.”

Regarding his FA charge from the Merseyside derby, Slot remained cautious: “As it’s an ongoing process, it’s not smart to discuss it. We’ve heard the referee’s comments, now it’s up to a panel to decide if I receive a ban.”
