Milos Kerkez has joined Liverpool after making a strong impression at Bournemouth and could potentially surpass Andy Robertson in the team’s hierarchy.

Robertson, 31, has only a year remaining on his contract at Anfield and showed signs of decline during the 2024-25 season. Earlier this summer, he was linked with Atletico Madrid, but their interest has waned recently.

Since joining from Hull City in 2017, the Scotland international has won numerous titles with Liverpool, making 342 appearances for the club.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness, who now runs a football consultancy, stated that Liverpool faces a critical decision regarding Robertson this summer. He mentioned on the Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast that Liverpool and coach Arne Slot will recognize the value of keeping Robertson for reasons beyond his on-field contributions.

Kerkez, 21, has signed a five-year deal at Anfield after scoring two goals and providing six assists in 41 appearances last season.

Wyness expressed doubts about a lucrative offer for Robertson this summer, given his age. He noted that Liverpool has options like Kostas Tsimikas and emphasized the importance of experienced players in the dressing room. He compared Robertson to Seamus Coleman, who was retained by Everton for his leadership qualities.

Wyness believes Slot will appreciate Robertson’s role as a backup and as a vital leader within the squad, especially since a move to Atletico Madrid seems unlikely. He suggested that having seasoned professionals like Robertson is crucial for maintaining stability within the team during periods of change.
