Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks to derail Manchester City’s efforts to secure their fourth signing of the January transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

City have already signed Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, and Abdukodir Khusanov for a combined total exceeding £100 million. With the reigning Premier League champions needing to beat Club Brugge to progress to the Champions League play-offs and currently sitting fifth domestically, the club has sanctioned significant transfer activity.

However, their pursuit of a fourth signing may not go as planned. According to Fabrizio Romano, 18-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sverre Halseth Nypan is set to travel to Manchester for talks regarding a potential move.

Ornstein, however, reports that Arsenal have entered negotiations with Nypan’s current club, Rosenborg, and discussions are already “advancing,” though no agreement has been finalized yet.

City’s proposal reportedly includes loaning Nypan to Girona for the remainder of the season. In contrast, Arsenal intend to integrate him into their first team immediately, valuing his versatility across midfield positions.

Last summer, Manchester United faced Nypan and Rosenborg in a friendly, sparking rumors of their interest, particularly after the player revealed he had “always been a Manchester United fan.” Despite this, United are reportedly not in the race to sign him, as his price tag is expected to be around £10 million with his contract expiring in 18 months.

Neither Arsenal nor United have made a permanent signing in January so far. United have submitted a €30 million bid for Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu, while Arsenal’s most prominent link has been a potential summer move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has a £51 million release clause.
