Arsenal is anxiously monitoring the fitness of one of their key players as concerns grow over injuries.
The club faces another potential setback, with a critical player required to undergo an MRI scan. During last month’s international break, Gunners captain Martin Ødegaard sustained an ankle injury and has been sidelined since then.
Last week, Arsenal star Bukayo Saka had to limp off during England’s unexpected 2-1 defeat to Greece.
Regarding Saka’s condition before England’s match against Finland, interim coach Lee Carsley provided a positive update: “Bukayo would have been close, but it would have been unfair to take a risk with him. He’s a positive person, and I expect him to be fine.”
Now, another injury scare has emerged as Brazil winger Gabriel Martinelli reportedly underwent an MRI scan after experiencing pain in his right calf.
According to Sky Sports, “This may worry Arsenal fans; Gabriel Martinelli had an MRI scan last night after complaining of pain in his right calf. He is currently with the Brazil squad as they prepare for a World Cup qualifier against Peru on Thursday. He will continue to receive treatment from the Brazilian national team’s medical staff. Arsenal’s next match is against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.”
This latest injury concern comes at a crucial moment for Martinelli, as former Premier League striker Darren Bent believes the Brazilian is on the verge of finding his top form after a slow start.
He said on talkSPORT: “The biggest factor is confidence—in any football. Regardless of where you play or what level, if you lack confidence, your performance will suffer. He is gradually getting back to his best, and you can see his confidence slowly returning. By Christmas, I believe he will be absolutely flying, with his confidence soaring and his stats reflecting that. He’ll be the Martinelli we know.”
So far this season, Martinelli has appeared in 10 matches for the North London club across all competitions, netting two goals and providing two assists.
