The official voting details for the 2024 Ballon d’Or are out, revealing how close Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior came to clinching the prestigious trophy. To the surprise of fans worldwide, Manchester City’s Rodri secured the award last week in Paris, edging out Vinicius by a slim margin.

As disclosed by French outlet L’Equipe, Rodri won with 1,170 points, while Vinicius trailed by only 41 points, earning 1,129. France Football will release a full report on Saturday, outlining how each of the 99 judges ranked their top 10 players, with first place receiving 15 points, followed by a descending scale down to 1 point for the 10th position.

In total, judges allocated 6,633 points, underscoring the narrow 41-point difference between Rodri and Vinicius. Interestingly, five judges left Rodri out of their top 10 entirely, while only three omitted Vinicius.

Third-place finisher Jude Bellingham was ranked first by five judges, while Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal and Toni Kroos also earned top spots from four and two judges, respectively. Apart from Rodri, only four other players—Ademola Lookman, Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and Lautaro Martínez—received the maximum 15 points from non-Real Madrid-affiliated judges.

Despite Vinicius’s narrow loss, Real Madrid still enjoyed success in Paris. The club was named the best men’s team, and Carlo Ancelotti was awarded the best men’s coach, though no club representatives attended in protest over what they felt was an unfair outcome for Vinicius.
