Pedro Neto confronted several Los Angeles FC players as tensions rose during the Club World Cup.
The Chelsea star was restrained by teammates during half-time of the Group D match in Atlanta.
Neto put Chelsea ahead with a well-executed goal just before the break. However, he faced some verbal jabs from Los Angeles players as Chelsea made their way to the locker room.
After the half-time whistle, Neto seemed to exchange words with LAFC’s Denis Bouanga following a challenge for the ball, which led to referee Jesus Valenzuela stopping play.
Bouanga started shouting at Neto, who humorously pretended to kiss Bouanga on the cheek. This led to some pushing, prompting the assistant referee to step in and separate them.
Chelsea players, including Reece James, rushed in to prevent further escalation. Fortunately, both Neto and Bouanga escaped any disciplinary action from referee Valenzuela.
Neto scored the opening goal in the 34th minute, assisted by Jackson. Although his first touch was lacking, he skillfully maneuvered past Ryan Hollingshead and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Hugo Lloris at the near post.
This isn’t the first instance of heightened emotions at the Club World Cup, which commenced on Saturday. Earlier, Lionel Messi appeared to headbutt an Al-Ahly player during the tournament’s opening match, where Inter Miami ended in a goalless draw against the Egyptian team.
