Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has undergone surgery and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a serious hamstring injury.
The England international, who has netted nine goals this season, sustained the injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace. This was Saka’s third hamstring issue of the season, prompting the decision for surgery.
In his absence, Arsenal secured a 1-0 win against Ipswich on Friday, thanks to Kai Havertz’s goal. A day later, Saka addressed fans with an Instagram update, sharing a picture of himself in a hospital bed alongside a motivational message: “The majority see obstacles, but few see the opportunities. Recovery has begun, and I’m coming back stronger! Thank you all for your messages.”
Fans flooded the post with supportive comments, wishing him a speedy recovery. However, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Saka will be sidelined for over two months, depending on how well his scar tissue heals.
“He had a procedure, and everything went well, but he’ll be out for many weeks,” Arteta said after the Ipswich game. “I think it will be more than two months, but it depends on how his recovery progresses.”
In Saka’s absence, Arteta has experimented with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli in wide roles, with Martinelli taking up Saka’s usual spot on the right. Loan signing Raheem Sterling, currently recovering from a knee injury, is expected back soon, though Arsenal might explore the loan market further.
French internationals Randal Kolo Muani and Kingsley Coman have been mentioned as potential temporary replacements. Arsenal will return to action on New Year’s Day with a trip to Brentford.
