Coach’s huge vote of confidence in €14m summer signing with huge potential to shine
Mauricio Pochettino had plenty of injury news to get through in his press conference this week, as ever.
One of the most significant additions to the list of crocks this week was Robert Sanchez. The keeper apparently hurt himself against Man United and aggravated that problem against Everton, where he was taken off in the second half.
€14m summer signing Djordje Petrovic came on at that point, and we will now see him start for a few games while Sanchez recovers. Pochettino was asked about whether he thought the youngster was ready for his first proper run in the team, and answered thus:
“Of course. I have faith in all of my players. He arrived at Chelsea because we believed he had huge potential. Now after four or five months working with us is the moment for him to step up and feel good because we have the trust in him. Now is to make the debut in Stamford Bridge, yes we trust that he can perform in the way we want.”
Fans are always excited to see new signings play, and so despite the frustrations of losing another first team player to injury, there will without doubt be some excitement about seeing Petrovic in action at last.
What a situation to come into for him – he can really make himself a hero.
