Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has shared a fitness update on Cole Palmer ahead of the Blues’ Premier League clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 10. The young England international, who has been in outstanding form with 12 appearances, seven goals, and five assists this season, is in doubt for the game.

Maresca noted (via Fabrizio Romano) that Palmer missed training and remains unfit, saying, “We hope to have him back against Arsenal, we will assess him.” Palmer is also expected to miss Chelsea’s Europa Conference League fixture against Noah on Thursday, November 7.

If Palmer is unavailable, Maresca may call on Christopher Nkunku or Joao Felix to fill his role, a potential setback for Chelsea as they are currently level on points with fourth-place Arsenal in the league. Alternatively, Maresca could adopt a more defensive approach by positioning Enzo Fernandez alongside Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia in midfield.

Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy expressed concerns about Fernandez’s role, suggesting on talkSPORT that Lavia and Caicedo have become Maresca’s primary choices for the deeper midfield positions, leaving Fernandez potentially out of the lineup against Arsenal. However, Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023, could be deployed in a more advanced position if Palmer is sidelined.
