Manager Arne Slot is already dealing with multiple absences in his squad, as Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Federico Chiesa, and Harvey Elliott are all unavailable for tonight’s Champions League match against RB Leipzig.

While there is hope that most of these players will return soon, one young talent who was out on loan won’t see the pitch again until 2025.

Luke Chambers Faces Lengthy Recovery
Luke Chambers had joined Wigan on a season-long loan in August, but their manager, Shaun Maloney, has confirmed that the 20-year-old will return to Liverpool for rehabilitation due to a back injury that is expected to keep him out for an extended period.

Maloney expressed regret over the situation (via Wigan Today): “Luke has a back injury, and the prognosis isn’t promising. We received this news yesterday, and he’s going to be out for a significant amount of time. He won’t be back on the field for a while—definitely not weeks, but months… into the New Year for sure.

“He won’t need surgery, but he will go back to Liverpool tomorrow, where they will handle his rehab. Specialists will take over his care, and it’s really unfortunate for him. There’s a bit of history with this injury over the last two or three years; it’s not just a recent impact injury. It’s a shame because he was doing exceptionally well for us; he’s likely been our best player this season.”

A Tough Break for Chambers
This injury is a harsh blow for Chambers, who had been thriving in Wigan’s starting lineup. As Maloney noted, the defender had been in excellent form at the DW Stadium.

This time last year, Chambers made his first start for Liverpool in a Europa League victory against Toulouse and was praised by Trent Alexander-Arnold as “an amazing player” with “great potential” (TNT Sports, via GOAL).

Back injuries can be particularly concerning, especially for a young player, raising worries that this issue could affect him throughout his career.

Hopefully, Chambers will receive the necessary treatment back on Merseyside and return to action as soon as possible, without facing recurring problems in the future.
