Crystal Palace agree deal to sign 18-year-old Arsenal prospect

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign teenage midfielder Dan Casey, according to The Standard.

The 18-year-old, who netted an impressive 18 goals in 21 games for Arsenal’s U18 side last season, turned down a professional contract offer from the Gunners this summer in order to seek a fresh challenge. Palace will now pay a compensation fee to secure his signature.

Casey, a lifelong Liverpool fan who grew up idolising Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho, also admires Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard. He will now look to continue his development under Oliver Glasner at Selhurst Park, where young players have often been given a pathway to the first team.

Although Arsenal have inserted a sell-on clause to benefit from any future transfer, losing a talent of Casey’s calibre is a setback. For the player, however, the move could provide greater opportunities at Premier League level than staying at the Emirates.
