Liverpool Prepare for Life Without Trent as Frimpong Emerges as Top Target
Liverpool are bracing for the departure of vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will leave Anfield this summer when his contract expires. The 26-year-old confirmed his exit earlier today, with a free transfer to Real Madrid expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
While Conor Bradley is seen as a potential immediate successor at right-back, new head coach Arne Slot may look to reinforce that position further. The Premier League champions are now targeting Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a priority signing.
Sources close to Empire of the Kop reveal that Liverpool are preparing an initial bid of €35–40 million (£29.8m–£34.1m) for the 24-year-old defender and are keen to accelerate negotiations. Frimpong is reportedly open to a Premier League move and could be tempted by a switch to Anfield if personal terms are agreed.
Liverpool are also considering backup options should a move for Frimpong fall through, with Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest), Dodo (Fiorentina), and Vanderson (Monaco) among the names on sporting director Richard Hughes’ shortlist.
Frimpong would be a strong candidate to fill the void left by Trent. Earlier reports from EOTK indicated that Liverpool had already met with the Dutchman’s representatives, and a formal offer now seems imminent. Slot and Hughes were informed of Trent’s decision during the March international break and have since been working on a succession plan.
Although Bradley shows promise, his injury history raises concerns about relying solely on him for the upcoming season. Strengthening the right-back position is therefore seen as a priority.
Frimpong, who has excelled under Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, offers a dynamic presence on the flank. Since the start of last season, he’s contributed 18 goals and 24 assists—an extraordinary return for a defender—making him a valuable addition to any squad.
If Liverpool can land Frimpong for under £40 million, it would be a major statement of intent and a shrewd piece of business by Hughes this summer.
