August has been dominated by speculation about Alexander Isak’s future — the striker has openly signalled he wants to leave Newcastle — and Liverpool remain strongly linked. The Reds had an initial £110m bid rejected earlier this month.
With the transfer window closing soon, Richard Hughes has only five days left to try to complete a deal before it shuts until January. Sources suggest talks with Newcastle will be intensified over the next 24 hours.
Romano told DAZN Football that Liverpool won’t wait forever and have been waiting more than a month for Newcastle’s approval. There’s still no green light from the Magpies, but Romano expects further discussions “tonight or tomorrow” and says Liverpool remain committed to Isak.
On his YouTube channel Romano added that Liverpool view Isak as a rare market opportunity. He explained that, for a range of reasons, Isak isn’t negotiating with other clubs and that Liverpool see him as the ideal striker — a chance to sign a top forward with little competition.
But the move isn’t straightforward. Newcastle are reluctant to let go of a player who has scored 62 goals in 109 games for them, and they need to secure attacking reinforcements before agreeing to sell. That makes negotiations tricky, especially after Isak’s public comments on social media.
With the deadline approaching and a tense St James’ Park fixture now out of the way, Liverpool may make a final strong push this week. Newcastle’s search for a replacement hasn’t gone smoothly — two bids for Jorge Strand Larsen were reportedly rejected — so if the Magpies do manage to land a replacement like the Wolves striker, Liverpool could see their long-pursued target finally become available and bring an end to a saga that has dominated much of the summer.
