Fabrizio Romano reveals a significant transfer he anticipates Liverpool will finalize this summer.

Joe Gomez’s latest injury setback has served as a stark reminder that Liverpool could benefit from defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

Adding to the urgency, Virgil van Dijk’s contract is set to expire this summer, which may push the club to take action. Given this, it would make sense for sporting director Richard Hughes to monitor a promising centre-back—Dean Huijsen—who was signed by his former club, Bournemouth, last summer.

However, Liverpool could face stiff competition if they decide to pursue the Spanish defender. Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the Reds are a club to watch regarding Huijsen’s future, particularly as he expects them to secure a key centre-back signing in the next window.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano reiterated that Huijsen has a £50m release clause, effective from summer 2025, which would allow clubs to sign him without negotiating with Bournemouth.

While Liverpool has yet to initiate negotiations, their need for defensive reinforcements is clear. If both Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were to leave at the end of their contracts, the club might face a major defensive overhaul, similar to their midfield rebuild in 2023.
