Florian Wirtz sparks frenzy among Liverpool fans with reaction to question about potential Anfield transfer

Liverpool fans have been lighting up social media after Florian Wirtz’s subtle response to a question about his rumoured move to Anfield.
Having already completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool are now pushing to bring in more high-calibre additions, with Wirtz and Milos Kerkez emerging as key targets to bolster Arne Slot’s squad.
Reports in recent weeks suggest the 22-year-old German star has chosen Liverpool as his next destination, turning down interest from both Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
On Wednesday night, Wirtz started for Germany in their UEFA Nations League semi-final clash against Portugal. He gave his side the lead with a sharp header just after half-time, but goals from Francisco Conceição and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game in Portugal’s favour, sending them through to the final.
After the match, while walking through the media zone, Wirtz was asked, “Excited for Liverpool, Florian?” Though he didn’t respond verbally, he appeared to nod slightly—something that fans were quick to interpret as a quiet confirmation.
One supporter posted: “That little nod says it all.” Another commented: “Just what we needed to ease the nerves.” A third wrote: “He didn’t have to acknowledge it, but he did—give him the contract now!”
Earlier in the day, Bayern Munich and Germany captain Joshua Kimmich was also asked about Wirtz’s future. He all but confirmed the midfielder had chosen Liverpool over Bayern, saying: “He has his reasons. I hope it’s the right move for him. As a Bayern player, of course, I would’ve liked him to come to us.”
Meanwhile, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano revealed that Wirtz has informed Bayer Leverkusen of his desire to join Liverpool, with a contract agreement already reached. “Talks between the clubs are in progress, and Liverpool are confident of finalising the deal soon,” Romano shared recently.
Backing this up, David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that Liverpool have submitted an improved bid for Wirtz, worth up to €130 million including performance-based bonuses. The talented playmaker is said to be fully committed to a move to Merseyside.
