“Granit Xhaka Unveils the Untold Truth Behind His Departure from Arsenal: A Message for Fans Before It’s Too Late”
When Xabi Alonso took over as head coach of Bayer Leverkusen last October, the team was in a battle against relegation. However, under his leadership, their performance dramatically improved, earning them a spot in European competitions and raising expectations for the current season.

I’m here as an experienced player, and my teammates recognize that I have knowledge to share, which is part of my role.”
Regarding his move from Arsenal to Leverkusen, Xhaka clarified, “It was sometimes said I returned to Germany for my wife, but that’s not true. She was happy in London. My decision was based purely on football. I joined a top club in Germany with ambition and a clear plan. The transition was easier since we previously lived in Düsseldorf, close to Mönchengladbach, where my wife grew up.”
He added, “You can only grasp the experience by training here daily. Bayer Leverkusen offers a peaceful environment for work; it’s less chaotic compared to other clubs that draw more attention, which is beneficial. The pressure at Arsenal is different, but we have high aspirations, knowing our team’s immense potential. If we maintain our focus, we can achieve great things.”
Now focused on football, Xhaka reflected on the difference between playing against Alonso and being coached by him: “He was a formidable opponent. His intelligence, passing, and timing meant you didn’t even need to press him. He instills that understanding in us now. I feel I’ve improved in this aspect during my two months in Leverkusen. He emphasizes the small details that elevate a good midfielder to greatness.”
With Alonso maximizing the potential of his Leverkusen squad and Xhaka stating that “the six position suits me perfectly,” the Werkself are aiming for a historic season. After six matchdays, they sit at the top of the Bundesliga, showing no signs of slowing down.
