Reports indicate that three players are considered “not for sale” as the club prepares for a transition under new leadership, with Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP looking increasingly likely to succeed Erik ten Hag. Sporting has confirmed that United has “expressed their interest” in the Portuguese coach, who has a €10 million [£8.43m] release clause in his contract.
According to A Bola, three United representatives are set to travel to Lisbon on Tuesday to finalize an agreement, as Amorim prepares for what could be his last match with Sporting in the Portuguese League Cup.
In the meantime, The Guardian reports that Ten Hag’s successor will have only a “modest budget” for January, given the club’s £200 million summer spending spree on players like Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro, and Manuel Ugarte. United is focused on adhering to profitability and sustainability guidelines, which may require balancing finances with player sales.
Marcus Rashford, valued at £60 million, has drawn long-standing interest from Paris Saint-Germain, though his performance has been slower this season. Among players deemed “not for sale,” youngsters Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Kobbie Mainoo are strictly off-limits to interested clubs.
Potential targets for January include Goncalo Inacio, who has excelled under Amorim at Sporting, and Viktor Gyokeres, whose £50 million price tag could pose challenges. United has also been linked to Alvaro Carreras, a former Old Trafford prospect currently impressing at Benfica, with a reported £16 million buy-back clause available.
