“Heung-min Son Shares Candid Insights on Kulusevski Chat Under Conte”

“Heung-min Son Opens Up About Key Kulusevski Conversation During Conte Era”
Heung-min Son reveals intriguing details about conversations he had with Dejan Kulusevski regarding the latter’s position during Antonio Conte’s tenure at Tottenham.
Kulusevski, who has excelled as an attacking midfielder this season, has become a standout performer for the Lilywhites. The 24-year-old Swede has thrived in a free-roaming number eight role, showcasing his versatility and raising questions about why he wasn’t utilized in this position earlier.
During Conte’s era, the Italian manager’s preference for a midfield duo—usually Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg—left little room for Kulusevski to explore a central role. However, Son revealed that even then, Kulusevski expressed a desire to transition into midfield, confident in his strength and suitability for the role.
“Me and Deki always had these conversations, even when Antonio Conte was here,” Son shared. “He knew he was strong and wanted to play in the middle, where he fits perfectly. He brings more energy and is excellent with his back to goal.”
Son also lauded Kulusevski’s remarkable stamina and work ethic, highlighting the unseen efforts that have propelled his success this season. “I think he has no lungs—he can run endlessly. People notice his work on the ball, but behind the scenes, his effort and attitude are exceptional. I want to make sure that gets recognized,” the Tottenham captain added.
