Ibou Konaté demanding 40% pay rise as Liverpool contract negotiations reach stalemate.

Liverpool fans are closely following the ongoing contract negotiations for several key players, and now the future of Ibou Konaté is at risk.

As reported by Hamzah Khalique-Loonat for Times Sport, the 25-year-old’s contract is set to expire next season. Discussions with the French international began before October last year. Currently earning around £80,000 per week, Konaté’s representatives are reportedly asking for a weekly wage closer to £200,000.

While much focus has been on the potential contract decisions surrounding Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, players whose contracts also expire soon haven’t been receiving as much attention. Andy Robertson and Caoimhin Kelleher, like Konaté, are also facing uncertain futures, and new deals for these players will need to be addressed promptly.

If Salah and van Dijk opt for short-term extensions, Liverpool could face the same contract situation with them next year.

Konaté is seeking a pay rise ahead of next season. A 40% increase, bringing his salary to £200,000 a week, would place him as the third-highest earner at the club, behind only Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Despite recent criticism of the defense, including harsh comments from John Aldridge and costly mistakes from Konaté, the 25-year-old remains a vital part of the squad and could be a long-term first-team player. His future should be a priority as the club prepares for what promises to be a busy summer of changes.
