“I’d Love to Play for Liverpool” – De Bruyne Drops Premier League Bombshell, Open to Shock Move to Rivals
Kevin De Bruyne’s looming exit from Manchester City has cast a shadow over the Etihad, as fresh speculation builds around where the Belgian star might head next.
Earlier this month, the midfield maestro confirmed he would leave the club at the end of the season once his contract expires, bringing to a close a remarkable ten-year spell in Manchester.
In a twist that caught many by surprise, De Bruyne recently hinted he isn’t ruling out a move to another Premier League side. The 33-year-old revealed that he’s open to offers that align with an appealing sporting vision, emphasizing that while he’s past his physical peak, he still believes he can perform at the elite level.

“There’s always a new challenge out there. I really don’t know what will happen next season. If clubs come with a strong sporting project, I’ll listen. I know I’m not the youngest anymore, but I believe I can still perform at the top level. I don’t know yet who’s interested or what options are out there. I love the game, and if the right opportunity comes along—and it works for my family—we’ll consider it.”
He added, “Honestly, I don’t know yet. The decision to leave City wasn’t something planned for long. Things take time in football. I haven’t even discussed it with my family yet. Once I do, we’ll see what’s next.”
De Bruyne’s legacy at City is unquestionable. Since joining in 2015 for a club-record fee at the time, he’s been the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s team, amassing six Premier League titles, numerous domestic cups, and playing a pivotal role in their 2023 Champions League triumph. His tally of goals, assists, and iconic performances have etched his name into Premier League history.
Even this season, despite battling a hamstring injury, he’s managed to contribute five goals and eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, including a dominant showing in the recent 5–2 victory over Crystal Palace.
Adding another layer of intrigue to his potential next move, De Bruyne has long spoken about his childhood admiration for Liverpool and Michael Owen. In a recently rediscovered interview from his time at Genk, the young De Bruyne revealed:
“My favourite club is Liverpool Fc, and my favourite player is Michael Owen, I love him. I would love to play for them one day.”
