“‘Sources Reveal’: Sky Reporter Shares Details of ‘Agreement’ for ‘Top Striker’ Targeted by Liverpool”
Liverpool are reportedly one of four top Premier League clubs “specifically interested” in a prolific striker who’s had an outstanding season so far.
The Reds had reportedly monitored Viktor Gyokeres over the summer, with the Sporting Lisbon forward attracting considerable interest after scoring an impressive 43 goals last season.
Liverpool eyeing Gyokeres On Tuesday, Florian Plettenberg shared on X that the highly sought-after Swede may be available next summer for a fee around £50-58 million, despite a €100 million release clause.
The Sky Sports Germany reporter stated, “I’ve been told that, despite the €100m release clause, there’s an agreement allowing Viktor Gyokeres to leave Sporting CP next summer for €60-70m. A winter move isn’t planned, but a summer transfer looks very likely.” He added that Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are all keen on the 26-year-old, with each club aware of the transfer arrangement. Gyokeres has scored 18 goals and contributed seven assists this season.
Liverpool’s interest comes as Gyokeres continues his remarkable form, netting 18 times in as many matches for Sporting Lisbon and Sweden this season. Despite playing in the Portuguese league, he’s recorded 12 goals in nine league games, including a goal in Sporting’s key victory over Porto.
Calls from Liverpool fans to bring in a center-forward have grown, especially after Diogo Jota’s injury, which will keep him out until after the November international break. Additionally, Federico Chiesa has struggled with fitness issues, leaving manager Arne Slot short on attacking options, further prompting Liverpool’s interest in strengthening their forward line.
However, Ruben Amorim’s likely departure from Sporting to Manchester United could complicate Liverpool’s pursuit of Gyokeres. It may take an enticing offer from Liverpool’s recruitment team to secure the prolific striker’s signature, with a major move for the Swede likely on the horizon in 2025.
