Craig Hope believes Newcastle are now more determined than ever to resist selling Alexander Isak, despite the striker’s push for a move to Liverpool.

The saga took another turn when Isak accused the club of breaking promises about his future, claims which St James’ Park officials strongly denied. That public fallout, according to Hope, has only hardened Newcastle’s stance.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Sunday Supplement, the Daily Mail journalist said:
“I’ve said all along, the fee itself wouldn’t be the problem. £150m has been mentioned, and with add-ons it could reach that, but my information was that £130m+ might have been enough. After the statement, though, Newcastle’s resolve not to sell has strengthened. If they manage to sign the two strikers they want, then maybe things shift – but right now, it’ll take even more to convince them.”

Newcastle recently had a second bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa turned down, and with the club unlikely to bring in two forwards before the September 1st deadline, their reluctance to cash in on Isak looks even stronger.

Still, the dilemma remains: should they keep a player who clearly wants out, risking unrest in the dressing room and a potential dip in form, or seriously consider a nine-figure bid from Liverpool?

With just over a week left in the transfer window, the situation could yet produce one last major twist.
