“Jack Grealish Breaks Silence: His True Feelings on Being Excluded from England’s Euro 2024 Squad”
Manchester City’s Jack Grealish was omitted from the Euro 2024 squad this summer but is committed to continuing his England career.
Grealish expressed his thoughts on being left out of Gareth Southgate’s lineup, noting that he had fallen out of favor with the former England manager, leading to his exclusion from the tournament. However, following Southgate’s exit, Grealish has been reintegrated into the team.
Interim manager Lee Carsley included him in the squad for the international fixtures in September. Grealish silenced critics by scoring in England’s 2-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland on September 7.
In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, he shared that he “didn’t really agree” with Southgate’s decision to exclude him, although he acknowledged he “didn’t have the best season” with Manchester City leading up to the tournament.
Despite this, he earned a Premier League medal from the previous season. Grealish noted that his individual performance didn’t match the level he had achieved in the prior year, when City secured a treble.
“I believe every position needs balance, and I consider myself an experienced player now. I’ve won a lot, so yes, I still think I should have been included, but it just wasn’t meant to be,” he stated.
He emphasized his desire to prove himself, despite already having 38 caps for his country. “I wanted to come here, train well, and perform,” the 29-year-old said.
Grealish expressed gratitude to manager Lee Carsley for trusting him and providing opportunities. “It means a lot to me. Throughout my career, having managers who trust and communicate with me, like he has during the last two camps, really helps.”
He is expected to play a significant role in England’s upcoming matches, starting with a home game against Greece on Thursday, October 10, followed by an away fixture against Finland at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium three days later.
