Following their dominant Premier League title win in the 2024/25 season, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are set to make a major move in the transfer market by signing Jeremie Frimpong. This comes in the wake of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s confirmed exit — a departure that has sparked widespread reaction from fans. Interestingly, Frimpong will be wearing an unconventional squad number when he arrives at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold’s emotional decision to leave the club where he rose through the ranks has left Liverpool with a significant gap at right-back. Slot, who is already being hailed as one of football’s elite managers after a stellar first season, is eager to reinforce his backline — and Frimpong is seen as an ideal fit.

Frimpong to Wear No.30 Shirt at Liverpool

With just two games left in the current campaign — an away trip to Brighton followed by a final home game against Crystal Palace — Liverpool are already preparing for next season. Frimpong, widely regarded as one of the top right-backs in the world, is expected to bolster the squad’s defensive depth.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Frimpong will wear the No.30 shirt at Liverpool — a number rarely used at the club in recent years. The Dutchman, who developed at Manchester City and made his name at Celtic before joining Bayer Leverkusen, has worn No.30 throughout his time in Germany.

Frimpong will be the first Liverpool player in a decade to sport the No.30 shirt — last worn by Suso in 2014/15. Other previous holders include Charles Itandje, Daniele Padelli, Boudewijn Zenden, Carl Medjani, Djimi Traore, Haukur Ingi Gudnason, and Tony Warner.

Throughout his career, the Amsterdam-born defender has worn a variety of numbers, including 12, 5, 14, and 71 at Manchester City. He initially wore 71 at Celtic before switching to 30, which he has kept ever since.
