Jurgen Klopp is being linked with a surprising return to management, and the idea isn’t sitting well with Liverpool fans.
The former Liverpool boss, who led the club to Premier League and Champions League glory between 2015 and 2024, is regarded as a legend at Anfield. After stepping away from coaching, Klopp took on a strategic role with Red Bull, overseeing their global football operations, including clubs like Leeds United and Rangers.
However, new reports suggest Klopp may cut his Red Bull tenure short to return to the sidelines sooner than expected. That possibility has fueled speculation, with one potential destination—Real Madrid—causing particular concern among Liverpool supporters.
Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has floated the idea that Klopp could be in line to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Madrid. Adding to fans’ frustration is the confirmed departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, a lifelong Red, who is reportedly heading to the Spanish giants after 20 years at Liverpool.
On the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce said: “It’s a shame Trent won’t get to play under Ancelotti, who’s among the best. But I think Klopp would walk away from Red Bull to manage Real Madrid.” He added that Trent made a wise career move and that the intense environment at Madrid is a major challenge, even for managers.
Allardyce also noted that Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who criticized Trent’s move, might have made the same decision if in his shoes. If Klopp joins Madrid too, Carragher’s reaction could be especially telling.
