David Coote is currently facing an investigation over remarks allegedly made in a viral video circulating on social media.

The 42-year-old Premier League referee is reportedly seen in the video making negative comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and his former club. The PGMOL has since suspended Coote while they conduct an investigation into the matter.

Liverpool is aware of the circulating clips but has yet to release an official statement.

The German manager was left bewildered by Coote’s decision-making after a clear handball by Martin Odegaard during a 1-1 draw with Arsenal.

“Yes, I have seen it. I am pretty sure someone will explain why it wasn’t called a handball, but I don’t understand how,” Klopp, now with Red Bull, shared with Sky Sports.

“I don’t blame the ref directly, as I don’t know where he was positioned at that moment. But how does someone watching in an office not see that it’s at least worth a second look?”

This incident is just one of many where Klopp and his players have shown their frustration with Coote.

During Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Burnley in 2020, Andy Robertson voiced his displeasure toward Coote, asking, “What’s the point in having you in the middle? What’s the point? F**k me, honestly.” Klopp, though more composed, added, “we have to be honest” about the officiating.

Another questionable call during a Liverpool vs. Aston Villa match didn’t help Coote’s reputation. Despite Liverpool’s win, fans were baffled by Coote’s decision to ignore what seemed to be a clear foul when Leon Bailey wrestled Mo Salah to the ground.
