Liverpool Poised for Defensive Transfer Surge

Liverpool could be on the verge of completing several defensive additions this week.

The club is expected to kick things off on Monday by wrapping up the £40 million signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

This comes on the heels of deals already finalised for Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen), Armin Pecsi (Puskas Akademia), and Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen).

Kerkez Nearing Move to Anfield

According to The Athletic’s trusted journalist David Ornstein, Kerkez is set to become Liverpool’s fourth senior arrival of the summer.

His signing is part of a wider shake-up in the fullback area following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free transfer to Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup.

Although Andy Robertson still has time on his contract, the Scot is believed to be considering his options amid interest from Atletico Madrid. That could influence the club’s decision regarding Kostas Tsimikas, whose future has been uncertain. If Robertson departs, Tsimikas may yet have a role to play at Anfield.

Marc Guehi Targeted as Next Defensive Addition?

With Jarell Quansah already out and Nathaniel Phillips expected to leave as well, Liverpool could have both funds and a clear need to reinforce the centre-back position ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

One name linked is Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. Reports from Valentin Furlan and Rudy Galetti suggest that Liverpool are close to agreeing personal terms with the 24-year-old defender. However, the proposed £45 million fee could be a sticking point.

As Paul Joyce of The Times has noted, Liverpool’s interest may hinge on Crystal Palace’s valuation, with the club possibly prepared to wait until next summer when Guehi’s contract enters its final year.
