Liverpool confirms the departure of the 22-year-old midfielder while negotiating a smart sell-on clause.

Liverpool have confirmed that Tyler Morton is leaving to join French club Lyon.

The 22-year-old, who came up through the club’s Academy, is making the move across the English Channel in a deal worth £15 million, as reported by Ian Doyle from the ECHO.

Liverpool has also included a 20% sell-on clause in case he transfers to another club in the future.

Morton, an England youth international who helped the U21 team win the European Championships this summer, made 14 competitive appearances for Liverpool since his debut in September 2021. He previously had successful loan spells at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City but anticipated limited playing time this season.

Joining Lyon offers him a great chance to grow in one of Europe’s top leagues and compete in the Europa League. Although Lyon was relegated earlier this summer due to financial issues, they successfully appealed and will remain in Ligue 1.

With recent sales including Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Nat Phillips, the Premier League champions have now brought in nearly £150 million from transfers.
