According to a recent report, Liverpool are preparing to make some bold moves in the upcoming winter transfer window. Football Insider claims that the Merseyside club is prioritizing the signing of a holding midfielder in January after failing to secure Martin Zubimendi in the summer—a decision the Spanish player reportedly doesn’t regret. It’s unclear whether Liverpool will reignite their interest in Zubimendi in the coming months.

In addition, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze has caught Liverpool’s attention. As per Pete O’Rourke’s report, the Reds are looking to make multiple midfield signings, with Eze emerging as a serious target. Known as an ‘outstanding footballer,’ according to Palace chairman Steve Parish, the 26-year-old is expected to command a fee between £50-60m if Liverpool decide to make a move.

Eze would likely compete with Dominik Szoboszlai for a spot in the squad, particularly in light of recent criticism of the Hungarian’s attacking output. Despite both players having three goals and one assist in the current campaign, Eze’s numbers have slightly dipped compared to his previous season, where he tallied 11 goals and four assists in 27 Premier League appearances. Statistically, Eze ranks in the 90th percentile for non-penalty expected goals, compared to Szoboszlai’s 50th percentile, suggesting that the Englishman could provide strong competition in Liverpool’s midfield.
