Liverpool fans believe one player ‘chose not to’ lift the Premier League trophy in front of the Kop — and it’s sparked mixed reactions.

Liverpool supporters suspect that one of their players may have intentionally avoided lifting the Premier League trophy during the official celebrations on Sunday.

While their 2020 title win under Jurgen Klopp was marred by COVID-19 restrictions, this time a packed Anfield celebrated as Virgil van Dijk hoisted the trophy following a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.

The festivities carried on for Arne Slot’s squad, with several stars — including Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alisson Becker — taking turns raising the trophy to a roaring Kop. However, fans noticed that midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai didn’t appear to take part in the traditional trophy lift, even though players were freely passing it around on the pitch.

At one moment, Sky Sports cameras seemed to show Ryan Gravenberch offering the trophy to Szoboszlai — the first Hungarian to win the Premier League — but Szoboszlai, despite wearing his winner’s medal and joking about Gravenberch’s red card, appeared to turn down the chance and instead let Harvey Elliott step in.

Supporters took to social media to comment on the moment. One wrote: “Did anyone else notice Szoboszlai didn’t lift the trophy when the others did? I saw him decline it several times.” Another added: “You’re not imagining it — something seemed off.” A third fan was more critical: “Why win the league if you won’t lift the trophy in front of the fans? Szoboszlai — that’s embarrassing. Where are his trophy pics?”

Later, Szoboszlai was seen in a more laid-back photo with the trophy, wearing sunglasses and posing with Salah, resting the silverware on his head rather than lifting it formally. Meanwhile, much of the spotlight was on Alexander-Arnold, who soaked in what may have been his last appearance at Anfield, visibly emotional as he shared a moment with his family.
