Federico Chiesa’s reaction to Rio Ngumoha’s dramatic winner against Newcastle United has sparked plenty of discussion among Liverpool supporters.

On Monday night, 16-year-old Ngumoha made headlines with a stoppage-time strike that sealed a thrilling 3-2 victory for the Reds.

The match had swung back and forth—Anthony Gordon’s red card for a reckless challenge on Virgil van Dijk left Newcastle at a disadvantage, and Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool’s lead early in the second half. But defensive lapses let Bruno Guimaraes and William Osula pull the hosts level by the 88th minute. Deep into the 11 minutes of added time, Ngumoha coolly finished off Liverpool’s only real flowing move of the game to clinch the win.

A fan-filmed video of the goal quickly went viral, with Chiesa drawing attention. As Ngumoha sprinted off in celebration of his first Premier League goal, the Italian forward amusingly ran the wrong way in sheer excitement before turning back to join the youngster. Moments later, the 27-year-old, who had scored Liverpool’s opening-day winner against Bournemouth, was seen embracing Mohamed Salah, the provider of the assist.

After the game, Ngumoha reflected on his unforgettable moment:

> “The fans, I heard them scream my name. That’s such a special feeling, but you can’t get carried away by the noise. At the end of the day, I probably finish that chance a hundred times in training, but with the fans behind me, it was just crazy.”
