Liverpool icon urges “brilliant” Reds player to seek a move away.

Liverpool icon John Aldridge has made a bold statement, suggesting that a player he highly rates should consider leaving Anfield.

Aldridge shared this view while discussing various Liverpool-related topics ahead of the upcoming Carabao Cup final. Speaking to Vegastars, he expressed his admiration for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, calling him “brilliant” but acknowledging the unfortunate reality that he is second choice behind Alisson.

Despite Kelleher’s impressive performances whenever given the chance, his opportunities have been limited. Given his talent, Aldridge believes it would be logical for him to seek a move to a club where he can play regularly.

He even suggested Tottenham as a potential destination for the 26-year-old and jokingly mentioned Manchester United, though he admitted that move was unlikely.

Reflecting on Kelleher’s situation, Aldridge said: “He’s a top-class keeper. In the two League Cup finals he played, he was arguably Man of the Match. Every time he has played for Liverpool, he has been outstanding.”

Acknowledging Kelleher’s predicament, he continued: “He’s extremely unlucky because Liverpool has the best goalkeeper in the world, which is tough for him. As much as I’d love him to stay at Liverpool, I think he needs to leave to play regularly—it’s what he deserves. No matter how much he loves Liverpool, he should be playing week in, week out.”

Aldridge added that, as a Liverpool fan, he would prefer to see Kelleher move abroad. He believes the Irish shot-stopper could thrive at a top European club in leagues such as Serie A, La Liga, or the Bundesliga. While he feels Kelleher could play for any Premier League team, he emphasized that a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs would be the ideal next step in his career.
