Liverpool Set Sights on Next Major Signing After Wirtz Deal, Eyeing Record-Breaking Transfer Window

After finalizing a move for Florian Wirtz, Liverpool have identified their next high-profile transfer target, and it could lead to a historic summer in terms of spending.

Following their Premier League title triumph against Tottenham in April, the Reds appear poised for a major squad overhaul, with new head coach Arne Slot gearing up for a transformative transfer window.

With both Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong arriving in Liverpool this week to complete their signings, attention now turns to the next potential addition.

Although Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has been linked with a move to Anfield, reports now suggest Liverpool are pursuing an even bigger name. Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg has reported that Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike has become a top target. Both Slot and sporting director Michael Edwards are said to be pushing for the striker’s signature, with initial talks already taking place.

While Frankfurt have yet to receive a formal bid, their CEO, Markus Krosche, is reportedly holding out for a minimum of €100 million (£83.8 million) for the 22-year-old forward.

Should Liverpool meet that valuation, they would be on track to surpass any previous summer spending spree. Frimpong’s release clause allowed the club to secure him for just £29.5 million, while Wirtz is set to cost around €150 million (£127 million). Adding Kerkez for a projected £40 million would bring the total to approximately £280 million—doubling their previous record from the 2018/19 pre-season.

However, significant departures are expected to help offset the cost, with Darwin Nunez, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Kostas Tsimikas all reportedly available for transfer.
