Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Future at Liverpool Still Open Amid Real Madrid Links

Trent Alexander-Arnold is currently expected to leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires, potentially making a high-profile free transfer to Real Madrid. However, recent reports suggest that a dramatic U-turn could still be possible — under certain conditions.

Despite widespread speculation that the 26-year-old is edging closer to a move to Spain, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes there’s still hope for Alexander-Arnold to remain at Anfield.

Speaking on BBC’s Football Focus (via The Mirror), Warnock said: “I still think there’s a chance he could stay. It feels like he’s sending a message — ‘If you want me to stay, match the top earners.’”

Warnock pointed out that fellow Liverpool stars like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are on significantly higher wages, and Alexander-Arnold, despite being a local academy product, may want financial parity with the club’s biggest names.

“It might come down to simply closing that salary gap,” Warnock added. “But what’s frustrating for fans is that he might leave on a free, after giving the club eight brilliant years.”

No Final Decision Yet

According to Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy, both Liverpool and Real Madrid have been surprised by recent headlines, clarifying that no agreement has been signed and no final decision has been communicated.

For now, Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain — but Liverpool may still have a chance to keep him, if they’re willing to meet his demands.

The Reds return to Premier League action on Wednesday night as they face off against rivals Everton at Anfield.
