Liverpool is preparing for their upcoming champions league match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at Anfield on Tuesday, March 11.
Liverpool has just four injury concerns ahead of Tuesday’s highly anticipated Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain—a relatively fortunate position considering the number of absentees across the league.
However, Arne Slot emphasized on Friday that Liverpool’s strong injury record isn’t down to luck. “That we don’t have many injuries, I don’t see that as luck. I see it as, first of all, top professionals – our players do everything to try to stay fit – and, second of all, great facilities and a great staff,” he explained.
The injury list could shrink further if Cody Gakpo recovers in time for the PSG match at Anfield. Here’s the latest on Liverpool’s unavailable players:
Cody Gakpo
The Dutch winger has a chance of returning on Tuesday. Slot confirmed after Saturday’s victory over Southampton that Gakpo’s injury isn’t serious. When asked if Gakpo was close to playing against Southampton, Slot responded, “No, otherwise I would have taken him because this was the most important game of the week and the first of three finals. If he had been available, I would have had him on the bench.”
Gakpo initially sustained an ankle injury in the Merseyside derby on February 12. He missed two matches but returned as a substitute in wins over Manchester City and Newcastle before suffering a relapse in training. As a result, he was unavailable for the PSG first leg and the Southampton game, though Slot previously described his status as a “close call.”
Conor Bradley
The right-back hasn’t played since the 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on February 19, when he was forced off with a muscle injury. Last Tuesday, Slot mentioned that Bradley would be sidelined for “a few weeks,” and there hasn’t been an update since. While a return after the international break seems most likely, there’s a slim chance he could be fit in time for next Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
Joe Gomez
After a promising start to the season, Gomez’s campaign was disrupted by injuries. He suffered a hamstring issue in the final game of 2024, and a recurrence of the injury forced him off during Liverpool’s FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle. The defender subsequently underwent surgery, and while Slot has confirmed he will return before the season ends, no further updates have been provided.
Tyler Morton
The midfielder underwent surgery on a shoulder injury last month and is expected to be out for several months. With uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, there is a possibility he has played his last game for Liverpool.
